As part of KB Home’s ongoing partnership with the City of San Jose, data from the thirteen on site air monitors recorded seven exceedances of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District guidelines during the week of September 30, 2024.
September 30: Exceedances occurred at stations 10 and 12 due to traffic, grading activities and high temperatures. KB Home contractors were working in the vicinity and upwind of these stations. Additional water and hydro seeding was added throughout the site and around grading operations.
October 1: An exceedance occurred at stations 12 due to traffic. KB Home contractors were working upwind of this station but not in the vicinity. Additional water was added throughout the site.
October 2: Exceedances occurred at stations 9, 11 and 12 due to traffic, grading activities and high temperatures. KB Home contractors were working in the vicinity and upwind of these stations. Additional water and hydro seeding was added throughout the site and around grading operations.
October 4: An exceedance occurred at stations 12 due to traffic or high temperatures causing elevated dust. KB Home contractors were working upwind of this station but not in the vicinity. Additional water was added throughout the site.” An additional, after work hours a water truck and street sweeper shift has been added.
Due to the high temperatures and windy conditions rapidly drying out the soil, KB Home has temporarily suspended grading operations as of 2pm on October 7, 2024. Dust suppression tactics and site conditions were reevaluated and the decision was made to continue the suspension of grading through October 12, 2024. During that suspension additional water and hydroseed is being applied in areas of concern. Weather and site conditions permitting, grading is tentatively scheduled to resume Monday October 14, 2024.
