Communications Hill - San Jose, CA Update
June 05, 2025
As part of KB Home’s ongoing partnership with the City of San Jose, data from the eleven on site air monitors recorded fourteen exceedances of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District guidelines during the week of May 26, 2025.
May 27: Exceedances occurred at stations 4, 5, and 6, likely due to grading operations occurring upwind of and near these stations. Contractors were made aware of the exceedances and additional water was added throughout these areas with water additives.
May 28: Exceedances occurred at stations 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10 and 11, likely due to a combination of wind over disturbed hillsides, grading operations occurring near and upwind and increasing temperatures leading to faster evaporation. Grading contractors were made aware of the exceedances and additional water with moisture retaining additives were applied throughout the site and around grading operations. Contractors also added water trucks stationed at specific areas of concern.
May 29: Exceedances occurred at station 5, 6, and 11, likely due to high winds and grading operations occurring near and upwind of these stations. Grading contractors were made aware of the exceedance and additional water was added throughout the site and around grading and utility operations. Four additional water trucks have been added to operation.
May 30: An exceedance occurred at station 5, likely due to utility installation operations occurring near and upwind of this station. Grading contractors were made aware of the exceedances and additional water will be added around grading operations on the disturbed hillsides that are difficult to water regularly. All utility work around station 5 has been suspended to clean up the dusty area and saturate with water.
