How Our Homes are Better for the Environment
We’re not just committed to building homes uniquely designed for the people who live in them; we’re dedicated to building homes that are better for the environment as well. That’s why every home is built with quality construction techniques that help build a more sustainable future:
Every home we build is designed to be ENERGY STAR® certified, delivering energy savings that lower the cost of ownership and are better for the planet. In fact, we go beyond the ENERGY STAR requirements by ensuring every one of our homes has been tested and verified by a third party inspector to meet the EPA’s strict certification standards.
Our ENERGY STAR certified homes also feature energy efficient appliances and lighting and have fewer air leaks and drafts and reduced noise to deliver an average estimated annual savings of up to $1,300 on utility bills compared to used homes. And as an industry leader in energy efficiency, we also provide an Energy Savings Comparison for every one of our homes to demonstrate the lower monthly cost of homeownership possible with a KB home.
Our homes include water saving features that reduce consumption and help save money. Features like WaterSense® faucets, toilets and showerheads help maximize water efficiency. Dishwashers are ENERGY STAR® certified and use significantly less water than standard models. You can also select additional water saving features and appliances at our Design Studio.
On average, our water efficiency features help save an estimated $500 annually on utility bills when compared to homes without these features. It’s these little things you don’t see that really make a big difference when you choose to build your home with us.
Aside from ensuring our homes minimize impact on the outdoor environment, we’ve also designed them to deliver an enhanced indoor air environment. Every home includes a high performance ventilation system that regularly introduces fresh outdoor air. We also use low- or zero-VOC products in insulation, paint, carpeting and cabinetry. And we build with quality construction techniques and features guided by the EPA’s Indoor airPLUS standards. As consumers increasingly focus on healthy lifestyles, we will continue to offer innovative homes that help promote the health and well-being of homeowners.
As the world becomes more and more focused on smart technology, so too do our homes. We offer smart products through our Design Studio that maximize energy and water performance, optimize connectivity and offer greater personal efficiency so you save time as well as energy and water.

We stand by building homes that support homeowners, their communities, and the world at large. And that means a commitment to supporting the environment. Every year since 2008, we have published a Sustainability Report that highlights the ways we design and build homes that we believe will stand the test of time and actively contribute to long-term social sustainability.
