Welcome to Mesa

The third largest city in Arizona, Mesa is located in the Sonoran Desert just east of Phoenix and west of the Superstition Mountains. The city occupies 132 square miles, with gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains and desert. It's dotted with historic buildings dating back to the 1800s, and rich with parks and golf courses. A vibrant downtown offers live music, free art workshops, and a 38-piece sculpture collection that includes an intact Humpty Dumpty sitting on a wall (before the great fall, naturally). More highlights of the city include:

  • The Lost Dutchman State Park. Located in the Sonoran Desert east of the city, this park gathers its name from the legend of the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine; a hidden mine supposedly in the Superstition Mountains. The mine has never been discovered but the legend has spawned books, films, a museum, and a lot of fortune seekers. The state park offers hiking and biking trails, camping, stargazing and bird watching.
  • Arizona Museum of Natural History. The paleontology and archeology exhibits you'll find here allow you to see and hear dinosaurs on Dinosaur Mountain, and explore the ancient cultures of the Paleoindian hunters and the Hohokam farmers with replicas of homes excavated in this area.
  • Mesa Arts Center. A mecca for all things art, you can catch a concert or dance performance, take an art class, or explore the museum.

Other points of interest include Riverview Park, a recreation center with a community fishing lake, multiple water features, and a playground.
