Did you know that a single plastic bag could take up to a THOUSAND YEARS to break down in the environment?
Plastic bags get a bad rep and for good reason. They’re not biodegradable, and instead just keep breaking down into smaller and smaller pieces. These tiny plastic bits make up over 90% of the trash and debris we find in our oceans!
Sadly to our ocean animal friends, these plastic pieces floating in the water look like tasty sea treats. When consumed, the plastic clogs their digestive systems, causing the deaths of 100,000 sea animals per year.
Plastic bags have been plaguing marine life and grocery stores for years, but cities like Los Angeles have been canning the plastic bag in favor of more environmentally friendly options.
- If you want to help stop the use of plastic bags, there are easy ways to help!
- Ask for paper instead of plastic. Paper bags are biodegradable (and reusable!)
- Bring your own reusable grocery bags to the store to use again and again. Many supermarkets offer these to purchase for just $0.99!
- Just making a small purchase? Go for no bag at all!
We know you’ve got this in the bag! And KB Home would love to help! Keep an eye out for local KB Home events in a community near you… they just might be giving away free KB Home reusable grocery bags! #BantheBag
