These homebuying tips from HGTV recently caught our eye for the simple fact that they offer a few bits of advice that we don’t always hear.
“Best-Kept Secrets for Buying a Home” discusses the basics, like getting pre-approved for a loan and paying frequent visits to your new potential neighborhood, but it also brings up some other food for thought.
The tip “Don’t Try to Time the Market” addresses a topic many of us are weighing right now. As we see the housing market continue to grow stronger and stronger, with historically low interest rates, some of us feel compelled to buy immediately. Others are fearful that with recent increases in home prices and unrest in overseas markets, we could be in for a housing market correction.
This tip advises: “Don’t obsess with trying to time the market and figure out when is the best time to buy. Trying to anticipate the housing market is impossible. The best time to buy is when you find your perfect house and you can afford it.” Great advice for those of us who are looking to do more than just buy a house – rather, to make a home. Most people live in their homes for several years, riding out the ups and downs of the real estate market. What’s most important is to find a home that suits you in a neighborhood that you love.
