Los Angeles (November 30, 2000)- Kaufman and Broad received the Corporate Alternative Dispute Resolution Award for leadership and innovation during the Eighth Annual Dispute Resolution Services (DRS) Awards Dinner, Nov. 30 at the Los Angeles Regal Biltmore Hotel.
"We are very proud to be honored for our leadership role in finding alternatives to the court system," said Senior Vice President and General Counsel Bart Pachino, who accepted the award on behalf of Kaufman and Broad. "I urge every lawyer here tonight to constantly explore and experiment with creative approaches to conflict resolution."
DRS is the alternative dispute resolution (ADR) project of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and has become one of the most comprehensive, effective non-profit dispute resolution providers in the nation, winning numerous awards including the center for Public Resources Legal Program Award. Kaufman and Broad was honored for the innovative and extensive use of ADR in its business.
"Kaufman and Broad has worked for the last decade to develop a better system for resolving disputes that is also as fair as any in the country," Pachino said. "All of our employees are trained to have our customers understand that our company's focus is on homeowner satisfaction."
Also recognized were actor and social activist Mike Farrell, who received the Louis M. Brown Conflict Prevention Award for his commitment to social justice and non-violence. Arbitrator and mediator June Lehrman received the Griffin Bell Volunteer Service Award and the Honorable Barry Russell, a United States bankruptcy judge, was given the Emil Gumpert Judical ADR Award for his career service to the mediation process in the federal court system.
Proceeds from the dinner help support DRS community, school/youth, consumer, and court-based mediation services in its efforts to help others find solutions to their disputes.
