Members of the Class of 2012 were promoted to cadet privates. This marks the end of the cadre military training period, which began on Aug. 16, for 639 freshmen cadets.

Each year cadet companies compete for the Kelly Cup, which is awarded to the best-drilled fourth-class squad in the Corps of Cadets. This year's winner is Alpha Company.
The Class of 2009 now wears The Citadel ring, forever linking its members to the traditions and history of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. During Friday's ceremony, rings were presented to 383 seniors before a standing-room-only crowd in McAlister Field House.

The museum has unveiled a special exhibit honoring Maj. Gen. James A. Grimsley, Jr., 16th president of The Citadel and president emeritus. The exhibit is open to the public.
Sixty years ago, cadet Melvyn Sandler picked up his 1949 Citadel Class ring while the Korean War loomed on the horizon. Classmate James DeVane got his ring at the same time, but as a much older veteran student. This week, members of The Citadel Class of 2009 will get their rings — complete with melted bits of the coveted 10-karat gold bands each man earned long ago.
